A cable schedule is the source of truth. This cable label maker turns each Cable ID, source and destination into physical label artwork, so the office port, rack strip and cable end can be checked against the same record. Begin with the 24-link office example, change RM201 to your own destination and inspect the updated route before printing. The sample names are fictional; no facility survey is implied.

From schedule to a checked print

  1. Load an example, generate a numbered run, or import a UTF-8 CSV, TSV or XLSX schedule. Review the actual record count and required endpoint fields.
  2. Choose wrap, flag or panel mode, then select a measured stock layout and paper size. Unknown dies stay blocked instead of being scaled to fit.
  3. Set copies, endpoint pairs, first-sheet skip and print offsets. Inspect the selected route, clear area and total sheet count.
  4. Download the alignment PDF, measure both rulers, compare it to the stock under a light, then export a single trial sheet at 100%.

Choose the shape before choosing the stock

Use a self-laminating wrap when a white printable section can sit against the jacket and the clear tail can cover that section. The generic 49-up layout is 25.4 mm wide and 38.1 mm high: 12.7 mm of white print area plus 25.4 mm of transparent laminate. A butterfly flag is different. Its 30 mm width has two 12 mm printable wings separated by a 6 mm no-print fold. Choose it for an OM4 jumper or a thin lead where a standing flag is easier to read. Patch-panel strips identify sockets, rather than cable jackets. Four separately printable 101.6 mm six-port modules cover a generic 24-port arrangement; eight modules serve two rows of 24 ports. A 19-inch rack dimension is an equipment mounting envelope, not a universal adhesive-strip width.

Keep identifiers and endpoint directions distinct

Cable ID identifies a physical lead. End A and End B identify its route. For C-101, an A-end label can read SW01:01 → RM204-D01; its paired B label reads RM204-D01 ← SW01:01. Identical copies repeat the same view, whereas A/B pairs reverse the near endpoint. With 24 records, copies set to 2 and A/B enabled, there are 96 logical labels. Each cable stays together in stable copy and end order. Source and destination are not inferred from a VLAN number or a filename. Use the optional Panel and Port columns for strips, and correct duplicate Cable IDs or panel/port assignments before exporting.

Read the sheet as measured geometry

Letter is 215.9 × 279.4 mm, or exactly 612 × 792 PDF points. A4 is 210 × 297 mm, or 595.28 × 841.89 points when displayed to two decimals. One inch is exactly 25.4 mm and 72 points. Changing display units does not change stored millimeters. A +2.0 mm X offset moves ink right by 5.67 points; a −1.5 mm Y offset moves it up by 4.25 points in the displayed top-left coordinate system. Offset correction fixes a uniform shift. It cannot fix a printer driver scaling the whole page, a wrong grid pitch or a different die. If the last row drifts more than the first, first check 100% scale and stock geometry.

Check laminate coverage and readable text

For a 6 mm jacket, circumference is π × 6 = 18.85 mm. A 25.4 mm clear tail spans about 1.35 circumferences. For a 20 mm jacket, circumference rises to 62.83 mm and the same tail covers only 0.40 turns. That is a coverage warning, not a claim of full protection. Repeat rows count repeated Cable IDs; endpoint groups are additional lines. A long route and a barcode share the white area, so increasing repeats from 2 to 4 can reduce fitted type. Inspect the selected label and heed the small-print warning. Code128 needs horizontal quiet space; QR needs a clear four-module border. Scan a plain-paper sample before using either in a field workflow.

Free printing and coordinated installer delivery

Basic multi-page PDF, single-label SVG/PNG, per-page SVG, panel strips, mapping CSV, Excel templates and generic ZPL are free. Copies, A/B reversal and partial-sheet continuation are also free. Skip K cells to leave the first K positions completely empty on the first sheet. For 48 records with A/B enabled and K = 5, the 49-up layout needs three pages for 96 labels. The paid production package adds a reconciliation map and a label-by-label production checklist tying end, page, cell, rotation and print-zone bounds together. The rack package coordinates strips, elevation and occupancy; contractor handover adds a company cover and blank test/signature fields. A package never substitutes generated paperwork for a real continuity or certification test.

Match the workflow to the installation

Office moves benefit from a 24-port Cat6 schedule with room identifiers. The 48-link data-center example uses two rows of ports and a 2U panel. PoE camera rows include documentation-range IP addresses and physical location notes; those fields are editable examples, not discovered equipment. Fiber work uses the flag guide, while stage technicians can start from the 16-channel XLR run. Keep a local project file before changing an installed schedule.

Read the network cable naming and printing guide, fiber and thin-cable flag guide, and TIA reference and handover guide for task-specific checks.

Questions at the print bench

Can I print both cable ends for free?

Yes. A/B endpoint reversal, identical copies, ordinary multi-page sheets and skipping used cells are free. Three records with A/B enabled produce six labels; they stay in A, B order for each cable.

Is the 49-up layout compatible with LSL-77?

No compatibility is claimed. This generic layout uses 25.4 × 38.1 mm cells in a 7 × 7 centered Letter grid. LSL-77 dimensions differ in published references; compare the complete die, margins and print zone.

Why is the 36-up stock blocked?

Six rows at 57.15 mm already total 342.9 mm before margins. Letter is only 279.4 mm high and A4 is 297 mm. The actual stock model and die must be confirmed before 1:1 export.

Can I use a partially used sheet?

Set Skip first K cells to a whole number from 0 through capacity minus 1. On 49-up stock, 5 starts at cell 6. Only the first sheet skips cells; later pages begin at cell 1.

Do my spreadsheets leave this browser?

Raw CSV, TSV, XLSX and project files are parsed locally. Free outputs stay local too. Server-generated installer packages require a separate data-handling boundary; sending edited job data is currently paused pending approval.

Does a generated test sheet mean the cables passed?

No. Continuity, Fluke Pass and Label Verified fields remain blank for the person conducting the work. Actual test instruments, signatures and acceptance procedures are outside the label generator.
